Where is the cheapest place to stay while traveling alone?

Utilizing Hostels While Traveling Alone

Hostels do not allow children under the age of 18, so they are perfect for solo travelers. Most major cities feature hostels; search online for hostels in your destination either prior to your journey or while you are on route. Make a note of the contact information and address to several potential hostels in the area.

At most hostels you cannot make a reservation--first come, first serve--so have these locations mapped out so you can find them easily when you arrive to the area. You can be left out in the cold if you wait until the end of the day to check into a hostel. A tip is to scout out a hostel as soon as you arrive to your destination and to make an effort to arrive early in the day.

Hostels are quite affordable and typically cost half or a quarter of what a hotel or motel room costs. For the bargain cost, expect to sleep in a dorm type setting and to share bathrooms. You will share a common room for watching TV and a common kitchen facility. This benefits solo travelers in that they are able to socialize with other solo travelers, which enriches a travel experience. Travelers share tips on great places to check out, as well as warnings about not so wonderful restaurants and neighborhoods.
