Ski Vacation Tips: Staying Fit and Healthy

If you’ve been scrimping and saving for a ski vacation, the last thing you want to do is miss out on time on the slopes. Try these tips for a fit and healthy ski vacation:

  1. Get in shape before you go.
You don’t need to start a brand new fitness routine, but it helps to be somewhat in shape before you spend hours on the slopes. Try a walking routine or a light jogging routine. Learn some basic stretches.
  2. Stretch.
Remember those stretches you learned? Use them wisely, before and after you ski. A limber body is far less prone to injury. If your ski vacation destination has hot tubs or saunas, use them to relax and rejuvenate your body each day.
  3. Be sun safe.
Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean the sun is safe. Use ample amounts of sunblock on your face and ears. Pay special attention to your lips by using a lip protecting balm that will keep them safe from damaging sun rays, wind and cold.
  4. Know your limits.
If you’re a beginner, take classes with a pro before you get on the lift. Ask questions if you’re not sure where to go on the slopes. Never try to do something outside of your comfort zone.
  5. Use the right equipment.
Make sure you’re using the right equipment and that it’s been maintained properly. Ask for help with sizing if you’re not sure if your gear fits correctly.
